Infatuated by Paris

In 2011 I was living at Avenue Carnot in Paris, with other words, I was the neighbour of L’Arc de Triomphe. Having that beautiful monument just outside the window couldn’t be more Paris! Imagine opening up the windows and just be infatuated of living and feeling Paris…the noises from the cars from the streets and around L’Arc de Triomphe….the warm feeling of the sun that was reflected in the windows in the opposite buildings…..listening to the people down the street… leaning towards the French balcony and just seizing the moment was the first thing I did every morning. It was like having my morning dose of Paris ;-) (and the very polluted air)

Solli 2011

Me in the late Spring of 2011 when I was living in an apartment at Avenue Carnot, right behing L’Arc de Triomphe. When this photo was taken I was about to go and visit my dear friend Jo who was living just a few blocks away. Living in the 17th arrondissement in Paris was quite a difference from St Germain (6th)…but Ladurée at Champs-Elysées was just minutes away (even though it could never replace my Ladurée Bonaparte in St Germain) and Jardin des Tuileries was not that far either….and then I was dangerously too close to le triangle d’or …which was not financially good for me if you know what I mean ;-) But strategically I was very well positioned for the Fashion Weeks in Paris when I was taking lots of photos…

Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs

Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs Exhibition

I so wish I was in Paris right now…would have loved to visit the Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs Exhibition they are having at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris.

Extract from the website of Les Arts Décoratifs about the exhibition: “This exhibition tells the stories of two men, Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs (artistic director of LV), and will highlight their contributions to the fashion world. How did they succeed in taking the pulse of their respective periods to innovate and take an entire industry forward? How did these two personalities, each with their own language, appropriate cultural phenomena and codes to write the history of contemporary fashion? An analysis rather than a retrospective, this parallel Vuitton-Jacobs comparison will provide new insight into the fashion system during its pivotal periods, beginning with its industrialisation and ending with its globalisation, focussing also on its artistic professions and crafts, technological advances, stylistic creations and artistic collaborations. It will also be homecoming for Louis Vuitton, who set up shop only a stone’s throw from the Louvre, the home of his first great patron, Empress Eugénie. Over a century separates Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs, but both come together in the excellence of their creativity.”

Exhibition:  Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs
Date: 9 March–16 september 2012

107, rue de Rivoli
75001 Paris

Les bonbons, c’est tellement bon…

April 11th, 2012 § 3

Odéon

Les Douceurs d'Odette à Odéon

Les bonbons, c’est tellement bon (=candy is so good)…and the sweet smell of it even better :-) When I was living in the area of Odéon  at Boulevard Saint Germain in Paris I could always scent the sweet smell of the candies from the Les Douceurs d’Odette’s small outdoor candyshop. You can see it in the photo above, a small red lighted tent behind the red-lights. I’m not into candy and I never bought any candies there…BUT if I close my eyes I can almost feel the scent of their candies and that brings me to my time at Odéon. And the créperie right behind it…where you can scent the freshly fried crépes with toppings such as butter, sugar, chestnut and Nutella. Sweet memories….et les bonbbons, c’est tellement bon like Jacques Brel sings in his song Les Bonbons.

Kettlebells – from Russia with love

April 10th, 2012 § 5

Kettlebells

My kettlebells

Since I live in the middle of nowhere and it’s more than an hour to the closest gym I’ve decided to exercise at home. The first thing I’ve done is to order some kettlebells. Before I left to Paris (in Jan 2010) I used to exercise with kettlebells in a gym twice a week and I remember they were amazing to workout with. Love to swing those kettlebells in the air while my entire body gets shaped up and totally fit. I’ve bought one 12kg and two 4kg to start with…time for some action ;-)

Paris blog update

Paris blog

The Easter break has given me pretty lot of time to look over my blog…but the great weather kept me away from it…at least for the changes I had in mind…BUT I did change the “Who is Solli?” page that you can find in the menu to the left. Because I’m NOT 29 years anymore and I do not live in Paris for the moment…even though I do it spiritually ;-)

Asparagus…

Asparagus

Asparagus

I love aspargus! I bought some yesterday…boiled them for a couple of minutes and then topped them with grated lemon peel, grated parmesan cheese..and served them with egg, salmon and mashed avocado with red onion…. The asparagus were delicious but still not comparable to the ones I was served at my favourite Italian restaurant in Paris, Oenosteria, or Mama shelter in Paris.

Sous le chapeau

"Sous le chapeau" by LAPIS Andras, this statue of a seated woman can be seen outside the Hungarian Embassy in Paris at 92 rue Bonaparte

Just because I will not be living permanently in Paris doesn’t mean I will not blog about Paris anymore. I still have so many photos to publish and yet so many stories to tell, so don’t worry on that part ;-) And I will go to Paris a couple of times before this year ends…for short weekend visits…so I will have even more things to write about. With other words…the Paris blog continues ;-)

My new haircolor..

My new haircolor...

A visit at the hairdresser! My new hairdresser is Michelle from London and I think she did a great job. Usually I go to my favourite hairdresser in Paris, Christophe Monteiro, but now when I will be in Sweden for a while Michelle is the perfect stand-in, don’t you think? Acctually I didn’t do much with my hair, I just asked her to put a semi-permanent color to even out my haircolor, and make it a bit darker.

My homemade applecake with crème fraîche

Homemade apple cake served with crème fraîche is a total irresistable combination…..I made this mouthwatering apple cake yesterday and today there is pretty much nothing left of it. It was a total success with other words :-)

FR: Gâteau aux pommes fait maison servi avec crème fraîche est une combinaison irrésistable ….. J’ai fait ce gâteau aux pommes hier et aujourd’hui, il reste à peu près rien. En d’autres mots, un succès total :-)

My homemade applecake with crème fraîche

It’s very easy to do, this is my recipe: Mix 125g sugar with 125g butter, then add 2 eggs (one at a time) and mix throughly. Add 200g flour, 1 teaspoon vanilla sugar and 1 teaspoon bakingpowder and mix. Pour the batter into a mould, slice 5 apples and stick them into the batter, sprinkle 2 teaspoons of cinnamon and 3 teaspoons with brown sugar and 2 tablespoons with chopped hazelnuts over the cake and then put in the oven (170 degrees) for almost an hour. Mix 4 dl crème fraîche with 0,5dl sugar, 4 teaspoons vanilla powder and 1/2 teaspoon cardemome powder…mix throughly. Serve the apple cake with the crème fraîchebonne dégustation!

Spaghetti Bolognese

Spaghetti Bolognese

My homemade spaghetti bolognese with some grated parmesan cheese on top

Last evening I made a typical Italian dish, Spaghetti Bolognese was on the menu at home :-) I usually add 2-3 carrots and ¼  of celeriac….it makes it more tastier.
